The livability and safety issues that exist on Hamilton roads designed like Cannon, King or Main Streets are very real and serious. Many people use these multi-lane one way streets for convenience and would not consider living near them. The reality is these streets cut through dense urban neighbourhoods that are populated with family homes, schools, parks, and businesses.
The signs are meant to create awareness about the issues that Hamilton Downtowners face relating to the way our streets are designed. There is a point to be made about balancing the needs of safe quick travel with those of the local community. Too far in either direction is not good. The signs are extreme, but they are meant to shock and elicit a reaction!
